Scripture Meditation> Ezekiel 34
1. What characteristics of God's rule are evident from this passage?
2. If our call to 'have dominion' is part of what it means for us to be made in the image of God, how does this picture of God's rule affect how we rule over the earth?

God is the shepherd king who promises to take care of the weak and the broken and give them rest on His land. We made in the image of God, should like God cherish His creation and care for our neighbours living under the threat of deteriorating environment. 神是那位應許照顧軟弱和瘸腿的小羊，並領牠們在自己地上安居的好牧人。我們按祂的形象受造，也當像祂一樣顧惜祂手所造的萬物，關顧受困於貧乏環境裡的鄰舍。請細心計算每日生活裡所留下的碳足印*，落實減碳計劃，踏出顧惜大地的第一步。

Confess 認罪

Day 9 of Lent   26 February 2010 (Friday)

Scripture Meditation> Genesis 1: 26 – 2:15
1. What do you think it means to be made in the image of God?
2. What do you think it means to have rule over the earth? (Note: the Hebrew word for 'to work' can also be translated ‘to serve', and the word for 'to take care of' can also mean 'to preserve, protect'.)

Carbon Fast> Confess
Let us examine ourselves to find out whether we have made ourselves as the master of the world instead of being the preserver, and have been consuming the world’s resources to satisfy ourselves, contorting the meaning of God's creation. Pray that God will forgive our sins and help us to recognise what is our basic need and what is our desire. Let us live simply during Lent by reducing consumption and use less natural resources and energy, such as water and electricity; and be the servants of God who fear Him and cherish His creation.

減碳行動＞ 認罪
願意我們一同反省，我們有否遺忘了作為世界守護者的身份，而自視為世界的主人；為了滿足自己，不斷耗用地球資源，扭曲了神原先創造的美意。求神赦免我們的罪，幫助我們分辦哪些是生活需要，哪些是我心想要，並在大齋期間，實踐簡約生活，減少購物和耗用水、電等資源，作個敬畏上帝、顧惜大地的主僕。

In ten years, 250 million Africans will face dire water shortage
不足十年內，估計非洲會有2.5億人嚴重缺水

Meditation> Story of the Poor

"I am 51. I remember that when I was young it rained a lot in my village; it was nice and cool and the river flowed all year round. I would pass through a beautiful forest on my way to school. Such beauty does not exist anymore," a Malawian farmer recounted sadly.

Rainfall is becoming more erratic and there is less each year. The streams and rivers are drying up – which are the source of drinking water. Many rural areas do not have adequate water. The water table is now deeper than before. Many years ago, October was the month when rains would come. Now, it has changed to December and it is never consistent. The agriculture cycle is negatively affected and brings food insecurity.

默想＞貧窮人的故事

「我現年51歲。仍記得少年時，我的村子經常下雨，氣候涼快，河流整年淙淙不斷。上學時，我會路經一個美麗叢林。這些漂亮風景，現在已沒有了。」非洲馬拉維一個農民沉重地道出心聲。

馬拉維的降雨越來越飄忽，雨量亦逐年遞減，供應食水的河流正漸漸乾涸。許多鄉村地區缺乏可飲用的食水，水位亦遠較過去低。以往，馬拉維每年10月份進入雨季，但現在延至12月份才不規則降雨。當地農耕週期受影響，帶來糧荒威脅。

1. In this Psalm we can find out how God takes care of humans and animals. However, why are there still one thousand million who hunger around the world, and many birds and animals in danger of extinction?
2. What should Christians do?

Carbon Fast> Pray
God creates the world to show His glory, power and kindness. However, human responded to God's creation with destruction. We only have our living and desire in mind and ignore the manifestation of God's glory.
Pray that God will help us to reflect upon how we live this Lent and respect all living things created by God in order to express our fear and worship to our Creator God.

We praise the Lord for His wonderful creation not only to express our appreciation to His beautiful creation, but also to recognise:

• He is the creator of man, woman and the world; and
• He administers power to all created things.

Let us begin today with praises for God's creation, recognising Him to be our Creator God and Master of our life.
