We believe in:

• Holy Father, Son & Spirit – the triune God who not only created the world but also continue His providence therein.  God like the creation and live among us.
• God at the beginning put up the order of justice and made man with God’s likeness, appointing him as a responsible steward to serve and care for other creation.  
• caring with love the creation is our proper response in our worshipping and obedience to the Lord of creation!

CEDAR invites you:

• In wider aspect, to watch out the progress in international talks over climate and express yourselves through various avenues to persuade for concrete carbon fast measures by governments.
• In daily living, to live out what you get, adjust the living habits and value so as to lead those beside us or even our society in whole to transform.
• About the world, to pay more attention to the problems of environment and climate in different places, pray for them and support organizations doing relief and development works.  They are to start programmes for giving relief to poor communities suffered from drought or flood, raising their capacity and resilience, encouraging their changes for building up a new life in a sustainable manner.

我們相信：

• 聖父、聖子、聖靈──三位一體的神，是創造和維繫萬有的主宰，祂喜悅自己的創造並委身其中。 
• 神在起初，在萬有當中建立起公義的關係；我們是按著上帝形象所造的，並蒙召去服侍及愛護別的受造物，並作個向神負責的管家。
• 顧惜萬有是敬拜和順服創造主的舉動。

邀請你：

• 國際層面上，多關注氣候談判最新進展，藉不同渠道表達立場，要求政府落實減排方案。
• 日常生活裡，繼續身體力行，改變價值觀及生活習慣，帶動身邊社群以至整體社會改變。
• 放眼世界，更多關注不同地區所面對的環境與氣候問題，禱告記念，並支持救援及發展機構，推展項目向受突變天氣與長期旱澇影響的貧窮社區提供適切的援助，提升他們的抗災能力和發展潛能，鼓勵他們自力更生和建立可持續發展的生活模式。

Please pray for the Christians and Churches in Hong Kong, for the transformation of lives of Christians and Churches so that they may:-
- act in response to the worsening environment and climate;
- stewarding the land and the creation on it;
- helping and caring the neigbours whether they are near or far away but similarly being affected and put to suffering from problems on environment and climate.
- living out our Lord’s teaching on justice and mercy.

血是基督為我們犧牲贖罪，拯救我們；而水則是神的靈在我們裡面，改變我們。從基督肋旁的傷口流出的血和水，讓我們認識到從血帶給我們永遠的完全，和藉著水使我們得以成聖。（希伯來書十14）

請為香港教會及信徒禱告，求聖靈不斷轉化教會和信徒的生命：
﹣更懂得如何回應日趨惡化的環境與氣候；
﹣好好管理大地和其上的萬物；
﹣並關顧、扶助身邊及遠方深受環境與氣候問題困擾和傷害的社群；
﹣活出主的公義與憐憫。

Hymn Meditation> “Via Dolorosa”

Down the Via Dolorosa in Jerusalem that day
The soldiers tried to clear the narrow street
But the crowd pressed in to see
The Man condemned to die on Calvary

He was bleeding from a beating, there were stripes upon His back
And He wore a crown of thorns upon His head
And He bore with every step
The scorn of those who cried out for His death

Down the Via Dolorosa called the way of suffering
Like a lamb came the Messiah, Christ the King,
But He chose to walk that road out of
His love for you and me.
Down the Via Dolorosa, all the way to Calvary.

The blood that would cleanse the souls of all men
Made its way through the heart of Jerusalem.

Please read Rom 5:6–11.  Jesus is willing to get onto the road of suffering with his blood to get God’s conciliation with human and men’s restoration, how ought to be our responses?

“Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God – this is your spiritual act of worship.  Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.  Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – his good, pleasing and perfect will.” (Rome 12:1–2.)

In the past few weeks did you feel in your carbon fast activities any inconvenience to persons on your side or pressure due to main-stream value?  Wishing the said verses in Rome give you comfort and encouragement.  For the love and humility of Jesus Christ, you may also whole-heartedly follow his foot-steps in offering.  For pleasing the God, you may be able to test and live out the way that being God’s will – his good, pleasing and perfect will.

On the land thorns are fruits of human sin and rebellion (Gen 3:17–18; Prov 22:5; Matt 7:16), the crown of thorns on the head of Jesus Christ represented such fruits of sin; He put down his Crown in the Heaven, wearing the crown of thorns that caused bleeding at his forehead, for the redemption of our sin (I Pet 1:18–20).

In your reviewing and reflection, which carbon fast activities would be hard for you?  Why?  Whenever you get the sense of difficulty or lack of strength, pray to God for His assistance in removing the thorns.

地上的荊棘是人犯罪和叛逆的結果（創世記三章17-18節、箴廿二章5節、馬太福音七章16節），基督額上的荊棘冠冕象徵著我們犯罪所結的果子，祂捨棄天上的冠冕，帶著刺破頭皮的荊棘冠冕，為要贖我們的罪（彼得前書一章18-20節）。

＞省察‧禱告

回顧、省察，對你來說，有哪些減碳行動較難實踐？原因為何？在你感到困難或較軟弱的地方，求神幫助你，拔去阻礙和纏繞你的荊棘與蒺藜。

1.  Why did the soldiers spit at Jesus’ face? How was Jesus hurt by such an action?
2.  Have you acted like the soldier in hurting or doing discomfort to others?  Have you spoilt the resources on the earth or brought down the value of creation in satisfying your own desires?
3.  Why Jesus tolerated our spitting and got onto the cross?

If soldier’s spit symbolize our dirt in heart, Jesus has taken it up to the cross and borne the curse for us. (Gal 3:13–14)

1. 士兵為何要吐唾沫在耶穌臉上？這舉動對耶穌帶來甚麼傷害？
2. 你曾否像士兵一樣，做過一些貶損別人，故意使人難堪的事？又有沒有為了滿足自己，耗用及浪費地球資源，貶損萬物的價值？
3. 為甚麼耶穌要忍受人類的唾沫，並帶著附在臉頰上的唾沫，釘身十架？

＞省察‧禱告

若士兵的唾沫象徵我們心中的污穢，耶穌將污穢帶到十架上，為我們受了咒詛。（加拉太書三13-14）

省察過去數星期的減碳行動中，有否發現哪些過去固有的生活習慣，確實破壞環境，加劇遠方貧窮社群因環境與氣候問題所受到的影響？請將這些傷害大地與貧困者的「污穢」帶到基督的十架上。求神赦免，並堅固我們的決心，為著神所愛的世界與貧困者，繼續持守減碳生活，與大地及貧困社群共抗環境與氣候惡化的威脅。

> Determine
When God talked with man in Eden, He instructed the Israelites to build the Tent of Meeting, allowed the Word to become flesh and declared that the dwelling of God will be with men in the new heaven, God has shown His will to live with men. Let us be determined to live out our identity and mission of God’s people by acting justly, loving mercy and walking humbly with God.

從伊甸園裡神與人的交往，在出埃及的曠野路上吩咐建造會幕，到耶穌基督道成肉身，再到新天新地裡神的帳幕在人間，神不斷表明祂要與人同住、作他們的神的意願。願意我們立定心志，踐行公義，關愛貧窮，謙卑與祂同行，活出祂子民的身分與使命。

建議你從今天開始，以步行代替使用升降機上落樓層，運動之餘，亦可減少耗電。

Pray that God will guide us to reflect our relationship with God, ourselves, others and the land by truth, and confess our sins

Meditation of the Name of God> Jehovah-Tsidkenu (the Lord our Righteousness) - Jeremiah 23: 5-6
1. Please read 2 Samuel 7: 8-17, Luke 1: 31-33 and Romans 1: 3 to find out the meaning and what a “righteous Branch of David” signify for the future.
2. Please read 2 Corinthians 5: 21 to find out the meaning of "the Lord our Righteousness" and what it signifies for the future.

> Confess
Jesus Christ had no sin but had to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. Pray that God will guide us to reflect our relationship with God, ourselves, others and the land by truth, confess our sins and await restoration through the Resurrection power of Jesus to reconcile us with others and with the rest of creation.
> ‘Live Green’
Recommend to you to clean the filter of your air conditioners regularly, and make sure your washing machine is fully loaded when you use it, and allow hot food to reach room temperature before putting it in the fridge. Treat your domestic electronic appliances well so as to reduce electricity consumption.

默想神的名＞耶和華齊根努（耶和華是我們的義）～耶利米書廿三章5-6節
1. 請翻閱撒母耳記下七章8-17節、路加福音一章31-33節；羅馬書一章3節，了解「大衛公義的苗裔」的意思和預表。
2. 請翻閱哥林多後書五章21節，了解「耶和華是我們的義」的意思和預表。

減碳行動
＞認罪
耶穌基督以無罪之名作了我們的義，擔負了我們的罪；以祂的義代替我們的不義，使神的公義得到滿足。求神以真理引導我們省察與神、自己、他人和大地的關係，懺悔當中所犯的罪，並等候主耶穌復活的大能修補已經破壞的關係，改變舊有生命，帶來自己、他人和大地更新的盼望。
＞「綠色生活」
建議你從今天開始，定期清洗冷氣機的濾網，儲夠需洗衣服才開動洗衣機，把食物放涼至室溫後才放進冰箱，善用家居電器，減少耗電。

Pray for God’s mercy to the communities affected by environmental and climatic problems
求神憐憫深受環境與氣候問題影響的社群

Meditation of the Name of God> Jehovah-Shalom (the Lord is Peace) - Judges 6: 22-24
1. Read the literary context to find out why Gideon built an altar and called it Jehovah-Shalom.
2. Have you met God before? What experience was it? How did it enrich your understanding of God?

> Pray for the Poor
In the time of the Old Testament, people will build an altar to worship God after having met with God. Sacrifice in the Old Testament is the type of complete sacrifice and redemption in Jesus Christ. In the past, Gideon met God and knew that God is peace. Today, we pray for God’s mercy to the communities affected by environmental and climatic problems. Pray that they will experience peace from Jesus Christ in their hardship, and know that He is the Prince of Peace.

From now on, let us switch to compact fluorescent lights at home. If CFLs are not compatible with your lighting, consider installing a dimmer switch.

默想神的名＞耶和華沙龍（耶和華賜平安）～士師記六章22-24節

＞代求
在舊約時代，每當人經歷神的啟示，便會築壇敬拜神。舊約的獻祭預表了新約裡耶穌基督所成就的完全的祭和救贖。昔日基甸與神相遇，認識祂是賜人平安的神。今日，求神憐憫深受環境與氣候問題影響的社群，讓他們在困乏與危難中經驗主耶穌所賜的平安，認識祂是和平之君。

建議你從今天開始，家裡轉用慳電膽，若使用的燈飾不適用慳電膽，可安裝光暗調節器，減少耗電。

Meditation of the Name of God> Jehovah-Meqaddishkem (the Lord Makes you Holy) - Exodus 31: 12-17

1. Why should the Israelites observe the Sabbath?
2. What kind of relationship between God and the Israelites is expressed by their observing the Sabbath?

> Pray

The Sabbath, not only witnesses the creation of God and His rule over all creation, but also reminds the Israelites that God made them holy to be His people. On the night before Jesus Christ died on the cross, He prayed that God will protect His followers from the evil one and sanctify them by the truth. (John 17: 15-19) Pray that God will help us to be holy in our living.

> ‘Live Green’

Cows, sheep and goats emit powerful greenhouse gases. Recommend to you to eat more vegetables and reduce the amount of red meat in your diet from now on, which would improve your health and the environment.

‘Water is the biggest problem for me: sometimes we face flood, sometimes drought. Agriculture is my one source of income, so during floods or drought my whole livelihood is threatened.’ Kasti, an Indian farmer, said.

Climate change will have disastrous effects because of increasing population. A small change affects thousands and thousands of people in India. It is a threat to human development; with one disaster, years of development can be wiped away.

由於人口不斷增加，氣候變化將會為印度帶來災難性的影響，小小的變化便會影響數以億計的印度人。一次災難，就可輕易摧毀數十年滅貧工作的成果，扼殺貧窮人的發展機會。

Floods in South Asia bring death and irreparable damage 南亞地區連年水災，帶來難以彌補的人命傷亡及破壞

Meditation> Story of the Poor
Bangladesh is experiencing a major change in both weather and climate over the last 10–15 years, such as repeated flooding and drought, and frequent advance of monsoon and heavy rainfall for long periods. These changes, like most changes, affect and impact the lives of the poor.

'Our fields are dying because of the salty water… It is impossible to grow anything in them any more,’ lamented Abbasuddin Mollah, a 60-year-old farmer from the coastal district in Bangladesh. 

'We are fighting climate change on the front line.’ said a Bangladesh’s environmentalist.

Crop failures, loss of capital investment, failure to replenish the inputs essential for recovery not only increases food insecurity, but also loss of household assets. These events increase not only vulnerability but push more people into the vicious cycle of poverty.

Abbasuddin Mollah悲嘆著。

孟加拉一名環境專家表示：「我們正在前線與氣候變化搏鬥。」

穀物失收、投資損失和復元補給困難，不但增加糧食供應危機，更造成住戶財產虧損，令更多人陷入更艱辛的境況。

揮發性有機化合物（簡稱VOCs）是造成香港空氣污染的主要污染物之一，而油漆、黏合劑、清潔劑、噴髮膠等石油產品皆會釋放VOCs。建議你今後不再使用噴髮膠及慎用清潔劑，從個人生活開始，減少VOCs排放，減少空氣污染 。

Since 2000 to now, Mozambique is experiencing acute drought.Majority of the communities did not harvest anything fromthe agricultural fields during 2003 to 2005; they now live by consuming wild roots and selling firewood in the towns.
Communities could not make seed beds at the normal time with abnormal planting seasons, thus affecting their food security in the region.

Carbon Fast> Confess
Let us examine ourselves to find out whether we have made ourselves as the master of the world instead of being the preserver, and have been consuming the world’s resources to satisfy ourselves, contorting the meaning of God's creation. Pray that God will forgive our sins and help us to recognise what is our basic need and what is our desire. Let us live simply during Lent by reducing consumption and use less natural resources and energy, such as water and electricity; and be the servants of God who fear Him and cherish His creation.

Meditation> Story of the Poor

"I am 51. I remember that when I was young it rained a lot in my village; it was nice and cool and the river flowed all year round. I would pass through a beautiful forest on my way to school. Such beauty does not exist anymore," a Malawian farmer recounted sadly.

Rainfall is becoming more erratic and there is less each year. The streams and rivers are drying up – which are the source of drinking water. Many rural areas do not have adequate water. The water table is now deeper than before. Many years ago, October was the month when rains would come. Now, it has changed to December and it is never consistent. The agriculture cycle is negatively affected and brings food insecurity.

默想＞貧窮人的故事

「我現年51歲。仍記得少年時，我的村子經常下雨，氣候涼快，河流整年淙淙不斷。上學時，我會路經一個美麗叢林。這些漂亮風景，現在已沒有了。」非洲馬拉維一個農民沉重地道出心聲。

馬拉維的降雨越來越飄忽，雨量亦逐年遞減，供應食水的河流正漸漸乾涸。許多鄉村地區缺乏可飲用的食水，水位亦遠較過去低。以往，馬拉維每年10月份進入雨季，但現在延至12月份才不規則降雨。當地農耕週期受影響，帶來糧荒威脅。
